Rick Bauer wanted me to post this.
For Immediate Release:
Eastern Pro Wrestling announces a very special night of wrestling action on Friday night, July 21, at 7:30pm. It takes place at Woodworth Hall in Seekonk, MA on 600 Fall River Ave. (Rt. 114A)
EPW presents the first annual RINGSIDE RUSH, a 16-man BLIND DRAW tournament to decide the number one contender to the EPW Heavyweight Championship.
This event is completely different from any other wrestling tournament in history. For the first time ever, wrestling fans will be allowed to randomly pick the matchups for the tournament. This event will be WITHOUT CONTROVERSY as the fans will enter all names into the hat and draw them in plain view for everyone to see. There will be no "funny business" on July 21. This will be a completely random tournament with 16 EPW competitors fighting to win the Ringside Rush trophy and number one spot in EPW Heavyweight Title contention.
The response in the wrestling world has been astounding. There are 27 names already registered with the EPW offices. EPW officials They will select the 16 competitors that they feel deserve this opportunity.
There are a few rules that have already been set by Mr. Bauer:
* All wrestlers will be dressed in wrestling attire and in plain view of the fans and each other at all times. Aside from using the rest room and fetching water, wrestlers will not be allowed in the locker room area until after they have been eliminated from the tournament. Wrestlers can only go to the restroom one at a time.
* There will be 16 cards with 16 different names printed. The fans will be allowed to examine the cards, the names, the container from which we will draw the names, etc. Different fans will pick different names to insure legitimacy.
* The first round is one fall, 10 minutes. The second round is one fall, 15 minutes, the semi-finals are one fall, 30 minutes, and the final match is one fall to a finish.
* All matches will feature two referees: One inside the ring, and one outside the ring. The official inside has final say on all wrestling issues.
* Instant replay will be used in the case of flagrant abuse of the rules.
* Countouts and disqualifications apply. If both competitors are disqualified, they are both eliminated.
* There will be three judges for this event:
- "Brutal" Bob Evans, 2-time EPW Television Champion
- EPW President Rick Bauer
- There will be one judge announced at belltime to insure there is no controversy.
Mr. Evans & Mr. Bauer have also decided not to speak to one another until that day to insure legitimacy of judging.
* To be eligible, you must have one year's wrestling experience and/or referral from your wrestling trainer & school.
* None of the 16 names eligible will be announced until the day of the event. All wrestlers who have registered are being asked to appear that day in wrestling attire ready to compete.
* The event is being taped for a worldwide DVD release in the early fall.
* We are hoping this becomes an annual event.
* We are putting on this event to dispell the myth that professional wrestling is something that is "rehearsed" and "choreographed" and the guys "talk about their matches in the locker room" Professional wrestling, especially EPW wrestling, is hard-hitting, spontaneous action made up of sports highlights, not "movie moments."
* For years, professional wrestling has lived with the stigma that everything is "predetermined" At EPW, we are making predetermination nearly impossible on July 21.
* We are hoping by presenting this tournament, that professional wrestling and EPW wrestlers will get the respect they deserve as the greatest athletes and showmen on earth.
* Tickets for this groundbreaking event will be available at our June 30 Seekonk event this Friday or at epwrestling.com starting on July 3.
Thank you,
EPW Staff
